Devendra Banhart at Cat's Craddle

So much for my new picturemaphone... Well, this was a dark club and we were sitting at the back. In any case, if you could see this photo, you could tell that Brad and I went to see Devendra Banhart playing with his band, Hairy Fairy on Saturday night and he kicked ass (a loud guy in the audience actually shouted, "You kick ass Devend-er"). He played lots of my favorites and even let some random guys play their own songs in the middle of his set. The opening band (Bunny Brains?), on the other hand seemed to have one gimmick and that gimmick was not playing music, unfortunately. The had interesting costumes (bunny, baby, dog, etc) but the "music" wasn't much more than a guy shouting, "Shiloh" and other non-sensical stuff. Then again, I supposed I was meant to be "challenged" by their performance. It was challenging to sit through it... However, Bunny Brains did set up Devendra to kick some ass. Oh yeah, Devendra also invited people on stage for interpretive dancing and gave everyone lots of hugs. Unfortunately, we didn't make it on stage (unlike friday night) and didn't get any hugs.
